End of the Year Top Five Jerseys I Bought

Today is the annual list of jerseys I bought throughout the year. This list was hastily made and completely arbitrary. Thanks for your support through the last two years.  I've got unexciting stuff to post next week, plus Padres FanFest is coming soon next year; January 13th to be exact, so I'll have a lot to post then.

The Tale of the Three Zagurski Jerseys

Where do I begin? Awhile ago, I bought a Mike Zagurski Pittsburgh Pirates road jersey from an eBay seller who lists many Pirates, Mets, Cubs, and Mariners jerseys. When I bought it, they had a batting practice jersey listed for more than $60 and I wasn't going to buy it.

The Houston Astros won the World Series a few weeks ago and there was merchandise produced for both teams if they won. Here's what the Dodgers World Series gear would have looked like according to SportsLogos.

RIP Roy Halladay

This isn't a post about merchandise. This is a story.

Roy Halladay died in a plane crash earlier today. He was a great pitcher with the Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies. Back when the Phillies were good and Mike Zagurski was on the team, I would watch their games. I was really happy when they acquired Halladay from the Blue Jays.

My first trek down San Diego was to see the Phillies for the first time play against the Padres. I was so lucky that day because Roy was pitching. The Padres had Petco Park configured so that the away team's bullpen was along the first base side. On my first trip there, I watched Halladay get ready up close. You could tell how intense and focused he was throwing each pitch. While he was throwing, fans would come up to the railing and take pictures of him or selfies. I took two pictures of him.

 The Phillies won that game 3-1. Roy had pitched eight shutout innings till I decided to move to lower bowl and the Padres hit a couple of his pitches. He struck out fourteen batters on that day.

Sometimes I get that feeling; I could really use another Mike Zagurski jersey. He played in the minors for two different teams last season. The Erie Seawolves had a bunch of jerseys on sale on their site.

Vegas Golden Knights Jersey Auction

As of writing this, the Vegas Golden Knights are up 4-1 against the Arizona Coyotes. A few days ago, the team had its first game and those jerseys are up for auction. Link to it is here.

During the last home stand of season for the San Diego Padres, they had a Fan Appreciation Sale. Everything they had out was 50% off and some items were 90% off.

Hurricane Harvey Auctions

Two teams that I know of right now are having auctions with the proceeds going towards the American Red Cross and Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

The LA Rams are auctioning two experiences right now for their home opener. You can bid on a suite and/or get on field passes.

The Minnesota Twins are auctioning off cleats.

If I hear about any other teams auctioning off experiences or items, I'll post it.

What's interesting is that I placed the bid on May 24th. Why would it take so long to contact me if I wanted to buy it? I think a couple of other people outbid me. This is just so odd. I rejected it because in retrospect spending over $200 for an Austin Rivers jersey is absurd.

Mike Zagurski's Bat?

I get emails from eBay whenever anything with Mike Zagurski gets listed. I was a little bit surprised to see this. I'm very confused by this because:

1. He's a middle reliever and wouldn't have his own bat. I know some starting pitchers on NL teams have their own bats but every other pitcher borrows.

2. Would a minor league team like the Indianapolis Indians order him a bat? That costs money for something he wouldn't use.

3. His number with the Indians was 23 not 59 with the Phillies. Maybe the seller is wrong for stating it was from the Indians. 

I might make an offer but I wouldn't pay what they're asking.

When I visited my old hometown last week, I stopped by a liquidation warehouse. They sell a variety of items; from toys to gardening tools to wood flooring. They also sell some licensed sports merchandise. I got of couple of baseball player figures from them years ago.

Padres Promo Jersey

When the 2017 Padres schedule was released, they designated Saturday June 10th as the day they were going to give out free jerseys. I was excited because I have never received a free jersey for going to a game. I know I shouldn't be considering how many I own.

Ducks Team Store Sale Part 2

I arrived at the Honda Center at a quarter to 10. There was already a line of 100 people waiting for the doors to open. I spent my time watching the season ticket holders walking out with hockey sticks and other items. I thought, "Why couldn't the Chargers done an event like this before they left?" (Actually, they are still at Chargers Park in San Diego till their least ends in July.)

I went to a Padres game last week. After the game was over, I decided to head to Ross near Petco Park. I thought I would find Padres', Dodgers', or some other teams' merchandise.

I decided not to do it because I knew I would drop that amount of cash going to Padres' FanFest. A user on Reddit bought a season long subscription to it. I'm so happy I didn't buy into it.

I Went To a Padres Game

Usually, the Padres don't give away anything during Sunday games.  I went yesterday and this is the first promotion item I've ever gotten from the Padres:

Padres FanFest (Philip Humber, where art thou?)

I got to Petco Park at about 2PM. I went to work in the morning and got held in up traffic going to San Diego for a couple hours. I wrote on here I would go and typically these FanFest posts generate a huge amount of hits for the blog. The more money I spend, the more hits I get.

A Tale of a Cap

Less than decade ago, there was a chain of sporting good stores in Southern California called Chick's Sporting Goods. They sold variety of things in their stores: fishing equipment, hunting equipment, treadmills, licensed merchandise, and other recreational items. Every fall they would have a large tent sale where they would clear out a bunch of items.

So I didn't buy into the T-Shirt Club. It was a lot of money to put down at once for a product that I don't know the quality of. If I go to Padres FanFest this year, I can get a lot of stuff for cheap and less money than those packages.

MLB T-Shirt Club

I got an e-mail today from MLB about this T-Shirt Club. They have different packages and you can choose any team. I might buy a Padres package and post about it when I get each shirt. It looks interesting but it's kind of pricey and the shipments are spread out throughout the calendar year. You have to pay it upfront.

I have a backlog to post on here. Ross has been receiving last seasons Diamond Era Cap and I've been buying them. I almost have the entire set.

Dodger Jacket

Sorry for the lack of updates. I do have things to post, so I'll start with this:

 I bought this Dodger jacket at Burlington Coat Factory. I paid $22 for a jacket that retailed for over $60. It's very light and gray, Too gray for my liking.

Chargers Moving

I wanted to post something today but the news of the Chargers upcoming move upset me. I'm not going to throw away or burn my jerseys. I paid for them and the team already got the money for them.

The truth is they shouldn't move to LA. LA is Raiders Country. The Chargers have no history in LA except for the one season they played there.
